Gossip: Allu Sirish 'Kullu' On Mahesh Babu

It is known news that those who not only hate Allu Sirish but closely observe him name him as ‘Sollu Sirish’. But now, they are not only calling him as ‘Sollu Sirish’ but also as ‘Kullu Sirish’. Incidentally, even Sirish is also proving himself to be fit for the title. Allu Sirish is unable to digest the fact that Mahesh Babu is becoming brand ambassador for products one after the other.

He commented on his twitter like this “Screw brands. They will throw their money on an over exposed celeb. What about customers? How about their trust?” with this, Sirish has not only revealed his jealousy but also his ignorance. Becoming a brand ambassador is not as easy as leasing a theatre for Rs 30000 in remote place of AP and running ‘Magadheera’.

Whenever someone is chosen as a brand ambassador, the companies take few precautions. They do extensive surveys because they spend hundred times more on ads than they spend on the brand ambassador. Allu Sirish who doesn’t know all this is growing jealous that instead of his brother Allu Arjun or cousin Ramcharan Tej, all brand endorsements are going to Mahesh Babu or NTR. That’s why, he has been busy venting out his jealousy like this.

Ishq Review

Film: Ishq
Cast: Nitin, Nithya Menen, Ajay, Sindhu Tolani, Satya Krishna, Nagineedu, Rohini, and others
Dialogues & co-director: Ramesh Samala
Cinematography: P C Sriram
Music: Anup Ruebens, Aravind Shankar
Editing: Srikar Prasad
Action: Vijay
Art: Rajiv Nair
Produced by: Vikram Goud
Written and directed by: Vikram K Kumar
Release date: Feb 24, 2012

What's it about!

Rahul (Nitin) falls in love with Priya (Nitya Menen) when he first sees her at a traffic island in Delhi on his route to airport. She turns out to be his co-passenger on Hyderabad flight and due to bad weather the flight lands in Goa. In Goa, love between them blossoms. When they land in Hyderabad, Rahul gets to know that her brother (Ajay) is the guy with whom he has a quarrel. Rest of the story is how this Ishq wins in the end.

Analysis

Despite many flops to his credit, Nitin starrer Ishq generated good buzz thanks to its music and the presence of great technicians like P.C.Sriram and also its pleasant trailers. The film is directed by Vikram Kumar, whose last Hindi film, 13B, was a huge hit. There is freshness in the film, in performances of lead actors and in music. Yet, Ishq fails to capitalize it completely.

Nitin's playfulness, and the good chemistry between Nitin and Nithya have made the film interesting in the first half. But as there is no strong conflict in the story, the second half meanders inconsistently. It gets predictable too at times. Only in the penultimate scenes, the film comes back on right track. Also many scenes defy the logic.

The best part of the film is its romantic scenes in the first half. The episode of Airport and Goa are pretty good. On the whole, the film is decent romantic movie.

Performances

Nitin is cool and casual. He has matured and comes out with good performance. Nitya Menenonce again proves that she has reservoir full of sassy expressions. Both of them have shared good chemistry. It is their jodi that is major asset to the movie.

Ajay in a rather different negative character comes out with good performance too. Ali provides some laughter in the second half. Satya Krishnan, Nagineedu, Rohini, and others in their brief roles are okay.

Renowned cinematographer P C Sriram's frames, as usual, are excellent bringing a touch of class to the movie. But his beautiful cinematography is spoiled by processing/grading at Gemini Labs in a more than couple of scenes.

Music by Anup Ruebens and Aravind Shankar is refreshing. Ramesh Samala's dialogues are neat and good. The subtle humor in dialogues has worked out well for the movie. Editor Srikara Prasad should have pepped up the pace and trimmed the run time.

Director Vikram Kumar has brought out good output from technicians and lead actors but his screenplay is not consistent. He has tried to give new twist to the cliched scenes.

Bottom-line!

Pre-interval romantic episodes, endearing lead pair and their chemistry, and good dialogues make the movie interesting. Despite faulty second half , Ishq, on the whole, is worth watch.

Rating: 3/5

What's it about!
Arun (Siddharth) is a college student in an Engineering college. He meets Parvathi (Amala Paul) on campus and falls in love with her immediately. Pravathi also starts loving him by the end of a semester. But like all lovers, they soon end up quarrelling over petty issues, confused about what the other one really wants. On the other hand, Parvathi has her own problems to deal with - her parents on the verge of divorce.

Analysis
What women want? That is a perennial problem for any guy. In his maiden production, Love Failure, Siddharth tries to seek the answer constantly as he can't decipher girlfriend's mood swings. The film is urbane and youthful. A romantic drama told in refreshing manner.
On the surface, the story of Love Failure is so simple and predictable but the way it is narrated and packaged in youthful, trendy manner makes film different and interesting.

Like in Hollywood auteur Woody Allen films, Siddharth narrates the movie in first person and speaks directly to the audiences. The writing - both the screenplay and dialogues - is pretty good.

It mainly focuses on sweet nothings of love, predicaments of young lovers, and ego issues. Even though the film has no strong conflict point, the young director creates situations that most of the youth can easily relate to.

On the down side, the film is a bit slow in the second half and comes to climax sluggishly. Also, in some scenes, the arguments have seemed more or less straight from the book, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus.

Analysis

Siddhu brings a real sweetness to his character of a young, engineering student confused about love. He looks perfect for an Engineering student. Amala Paulis apt for her role and her performance is equally good (Soumya has dubbed her voice). New comers have played in most of the other characters and the guy who played the role of Shiva brings laughter. Sureshas Amala Paul's father and Surekha Vani have played perfectly well.

For the first time, Taman, who is known for loud songs, scores soothing music and enhances the mood of the movie through his background score.Nirav Sha's visuals are pleasant to the eyes. Dialogues are cool and realistic.

New director Balaji Mohan seems a promising talent; he has shown so much creativity in narrating the story.

Bottom-line
Love Failure is youthful romantic drama told in refreshing manner. A cool flick with mature handling. Simple and endearing movie.
Urban youngsters might easily connect with this movie.

Poola Rangadu Review

What's it about!

Ranga (Sunil) buys a land that is in dispute near Warangal. Konda Reddy (Dev Gil) and Lala Goud (Pradeep Rawat) have been fighting for that land. So Ranga wants to sell off the land but these two dons would not allow anyone to buy it. Knowing he is in a fix, Ranga approaches to his friend (Ali) who advises him to befriend Anitha (Isha Chawla), Lala Goud's daughter. Soon he falls for the charms of Anitha and fresh problems start for Ranga. How he succeeds in selling off the land and gets his love forms rest of the story.

Analysis

Sunil, who is going through rough phase after the disastrous result of Appalraju, is back in form withPoola Rangadu . His comic timing and performance lifts this movie. Though basic story is copied from Malayalam film, Pandippada(2005) , Poola Rangadu offers good laughter and genuine funny moments, thanks to Sunil.

There is nothing new in the movie and its presentation but the movie works well because of pretty good comedy dialogues and good music. Director Veerabhadram's screenplay is also sufficient enough to glue to the theaters.

First half of the film is fast faced and engaging. Second half of the movie is a bit slow but monotonous but it picks up towards climax. On the whole, the film is fairly engaging comedy movie.

Performances

Sunil is extremely good in his acting and dances. It is his show all the way. The so-called six-pack body that he shows off for the audiences in a fight sequence is okay. Heroine Isha Chawla as glam doll is fine. Al i provides some nice laughs Dev Gill andPradeep Rawat are good. Telangana Sakunthala, Kota, Krishna Baghavan, and Pridhvi are good in their respective roles.

Anup Reubens music and songs have gelled with the story and Sunil has come up with good dance steps for those songs. Prasad Murella's cinematography is neat. The film has decent production values too. Editor should have trimmed the film in the second half. Director Veerabhadram has succeeded in bringing out good comedy scenes and packaging the movie well.

Bottom-line

Poola Rangadu has good comedy scenes and provides enough laughter to the most part. Though the film has nothing new to offer in terms of story and screenplay, the movie engages the audiences with its comedy, which is its sole strength. Watch the movie for good entertainment.

What's it about!
Shiva (Sudhir), a professional courier boy, falls for the charms of Shruti (Regina), a Radio Jockey. He proposes her and tries hard to impress her but she doesn't respond initially. When she finally falls for him, he breaks her heart with his wayward attitude. And their love-hate relationship continues..

Analysis
S M S (Siva Manasulo Shruthi) is a debut vehicle for Sudhir Babu, brother-in-law of superstar Mahesh Babu. Directed by Tatineni Satya (who made debut with Bhimlee Kabaddi Jattu), SMS is based on a Tamil hit - Siva Manasula Sakthi. The film has a wafer-thin script, so it completely hinges on comedy that thankfully evokes good laughter to some extent.

Several scenes are copied from films like Chalte Chalte and Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, but the film entertains well in the first half of the movie.

Second half goes helter-skelter but finally ends on a good note. Basic problem with the movie is that it has no major conflict. Like Ala Modalaindi, the film puts more stress on romantic incidents and ego clashes. On the whole, the film is good in parts.

Performances

For a debutant Sudhir Babu has come up with decent performance. He is good at dances and he impresses in songs. He seems to have followed Nani's style of dialogue delivery that Nani used in Ala Modalaindi. But Sudhir needs to work on his diction and expressions.

New actress Regina looks like a girl-next-door and carries her role very well and she also has acting skills. She is good find. The guy ( Chanti) who played the role of Sudhir's friend provides some good comedy. Vennela Kishore excels in his brief role. Rohini as a hero's mother has gone overboard.  Priyanka as Sudhir's sister is pretty.

Among the technicians, dialogue writer Nandyala Ravishines. In a film where actors converse more, he has come up with good writing though much of the dialogues are filled with prasa (rhyme). Cinematography is decent.

Selva Ganesh’s two songs are catchy.  Production values are good. Tatineni Satya has tried to localize the content but scenes like heroine entering into a local wine shop still have the touch of Tamil movies. His screenplay is not taut.

Bottom-line
Good dialogues and some laughs, Sudhir Babu's dances and heroine Regina are plus points of this romantic entertainer. SMS is a time pass film.

CBFC Rating : U

What's it about!
Widower Subbu aka Subramaniam (Prakash Raj) is middle-class government employee with two young children. Life is a struggle for him as he has to pay for their study. Not only is he a hard working father but also takes care of them like their mother would have. Elder son Karthik is interested in cricket than studies. Subbu wants him to excel in studies and achieve something in life. Contrary to Subbu’s dreams Karthik hopes to become a great cricketer like Dhoni, whom he idolizes. Karthik’s coach (Nassar) notices that this student will surely become an ace cricketer someday. Karthik has added pressure from the school principal who wants 100 per cent result. He even threatens Karthik that he would be thrown out of the school in case of failure. The film then takes a series of dramatic twists and turns.

Analysis
What’s more important curriculum or a child’s interest? Is excelling in all subjects the only mantra for students?

Prakash Raj's directorial venture, Dhoni, questions all these and more. It is a well-intended film that deals with this topical issue. Taking basic story from a Marathi film ' Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho'written by Mahesh Manjrekar, Prakash Raj along with his writers has weaved a beautiful script that attacks the current education system which burdens the child.

The film starts off with a scene in which Prakash Raj lands in a prison that creates interest. The first half of the movie focuses on the struggles of a middle class widower working on a meager  government salary and the life of Nalini (played beautifully by Radhika Apte) who serves as a mistress to a goon and leads a happy perfect normal life in a middle-class colony. Second half of the movie delves more into the topical issue of education system.

While the first half of the movie has many engrossing moments, the movie loses tempo towards the climax with unconvincing scenes like Prakash Raj meeting a Chief Minister and having a lengthy preachy argument. On the whole, the film has meaningful moments with a subject that everyone can relate to. And the best part is Prakash Raj has not fallen into the commercial trappings.

Performance
Prakash Raj is brilliant actor and he proves it once again. He carries the film with his compassionate performance. He also has put on weight to look a like a middle-class widower. As a director he has shown his skills. Deft handling of scenes like Radhika Apte telling her story post the interval and pre-interval sequences make him a good director.

Akash as a kid obsessed with cricket comes up with engrossing performance. The other child Sree Teja is a neat performer. Radhika Apte speaks little but express through her eyes. Her role is etched out well and she does it perfectly. Brahmanandam, Gollapudiand Murali Sharma are excellent too. Prabhu Devaappears in a song that is told in a director's point of view.

Among the technicians, maestro Ilayaraja work stands out. His background score has elevated many poignant moments. Among his songs - Mattiloni Chettu and Gayam Tagili are the best.
Cinematographer Guhan's beautiful camera work doesn't make you feel that it is shot in limited locations. His work gels with the subject. EditorKishore should have shortened the film especially the verbose scenes towards the climax.

Bottom-line
Dhoni is a poignant film about the parent and children, the flawed education system that exhausts the children by putting pressures than providing the exhaustive learning process. Despite some melodrama and pretty ordinary penultimate scenes, it is a good film sans 'commercial elements'.
